Dear " sowers " the Lord

in the field of the world,

is still "Kingdom of God" that speaks this parable. As usual, Jesus took examples from the daily life of people around him to understand one aspect of "Kingdom of God , an aspect of church life, one aspect of how things work here in the community of believers.

Whenever it highlights another aspect. Here, take the dish above and one below!

With the seed that the sower dropped in different fields (Mk 4.4-20), he wants to invite us to work in the field of our heart for it is not hard as "the way" or "stony ground" or asphyxiated by these "brambles" that are "concerns" and other "attractions" of this world, but our heart is to receive personal property "the Living Word Permanent and God (1 P 1.23).

With the parable of "mustard seed" , "the smallest of all seeds" used by people of the time in their fields, it shows that "the kingdom of God" , even if it starts so small and insignificant, finally unfolds and grows to exceed in grandeur anything that exists on the scope of this world. With our parable, Jesus wants to encourage us.

THE QUALITY OF SEED

it provides us

This is something although significant. If the sower is not convinced of the quality of his semen, he did not sow - so what is the tire for anything? - Or he will sow without conviction or hope.

The farming profession is not as simple as that. I remember the most important operator in my last parish in Alsace. He regularly visited a center in the department where he explained how to sow the seed of the year and what not to do. He returned to his village and transmitted it to other farmers.

They were informed about the quality of their semen and conditions under which it gave the best performance. Some were ignoring the advice - did not trust the seed - and spread much more seed on the field for better performance. But ultimately they choked the seeds by putting too many, while one who had confidence in the seed and sowed less dense, more harvested.

seed that Jesus has given us is it good? Is anyone out there who no longer bear fruit? The comedians skits, songs of popular stars, even the speeches of politicians, however, that critical as it is not possible, do not they meet more people than we sow the Gospel?

You know, the handful of disciples around Jesus would be very little face to the crowds who flocked to the Temple of Jerusalem. And when Jesus agonized on the cross, they must have felt much smaller and insignificant yet.

It would not come to the idea of the sower to spend the nights awake next to his field to " germinate "and " push " his seed. If an unbeliever, he relies on mysterious forces of creation, it is believed he handed the fate of his seed in the hands of the Creator.

No doubt the farmer look there from time to time in the field to see how things evolve, but not to make the seed germinate and grow.

It reminds me of our childhood. Mom allowed us to sow peas in a corner of the garden. That rarely succeeded. Is that we're simply not "sleep" then as the sower of our parable, but we grattions earth to see how they were sprouting, and, over time, so we often mishandled the seed she was dying.

When you go into the fields a few weeks after sowing, do you see the grass. Initially, the grains do not resemble that of the grass. There is currently no ears, no fruit yet.

Thus the gospel sown in the hearts of working in silence. In some fields, it rises faster, in others it is a long time to bear fruit. That is what we also see when we do evangelism, or to use simpler words: when we witness to our faith in Jesus Christ around us.

Some, the Holy Spirit converts faster to faith in Jesus than others. With some, the seed of the Gospel takes months, even years to bear fruit.

"Be patient" means us understand our Lord! "That the slowness with which the seed does not discourage you up and take you do not stop seeding. The seed is good. This is the only that can bring real life, real fruit. "

" What you see, after sowing, this may be fruit still green. Be patient. The Gospel continues to do its work. I have provided a vital force as you can trust that seed. The fruits do not delay. "

And the fruit that carries the Gospel that we are ultimately sow a beauty Outstanding. No other seed can produce them: Faith in Jesus Christ, a life lived in the certainty that God is reconciled to us, we have an ally in life, so sure that one day even death can nothing against us.

The aim of any seed is to one day reap. Which farmer struggles to sow, if it was hopeless to harvest? Who among you would go to his job if he had the certainty of being paid back?

A parish who instructs her children in the catechism is hoping and praying that these children grow in knowledge and faith in their Lord and Savior, they will continue to grow toward spiritual maturity.

A parish like ours, which attempts to spread the Gospel among others - with our missionaries snacks, for example - would she do if she had the promise of fruit from his Lord?

Jesus tells us here that we can safely sow, we have every reason to be persistent with our sowing: there will be a harvest, there will be a return of the crop. The Gospel assures us.

An early "harvest" is already done in this life. Being received into the Kingdom of God through faith in Jesus Christ is already being "raised in the attic" Master (Mt 13.30), be adopted as a child, enjoying his presence and his blessing.

For more and more people are part of this "harvest" , sow, sow constantly.

Then one day, "The Lord of the harvest" (Mt 9.38) will decide that for me, for you, the time has come for us to find, according to the soul, "with him in Paradise" (Luke 23:43). This will be the day we die. To date, the reapers are the angels who bear our souls "in the bosom of Abraham" (Luke 16.22).

For more and more people are aware of this state, "what to many is the best" (Phil 1.23), even better than we can live more beautiful down here , sow, sow constantly!

Finally, the Day of Judgement, God will tell us, we who are planting a fruit divine, but also to all those who in our planting will mature : "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world! " (Mt 25.34)

For more and more people to the Day of Judgement, " take possession of the Kingdom " , sow, sow unabated, with faith in Harvest!

9 Is this the gratitude that slave because he did what he was ordered? I think not.

10 You, likewise, when you've done everything that was ordered, said: "We are slaves unpretentious us have done what we should do. " "

Dear servants of the Divine Master,

When I read the text before us to preach this Sunday, I first had a cringe, because our versions generally reflected the end of this episode by Conviction: "We are slaves [or: servants ] unnecessary. "

What about a sentence that contradicts its context? How to cope? How to find an application where you do not bite the tail?

It is true, there are biblical passages that we remain unclear, which we will explain that in the afterlife. But preach on the text as the result of our most versions, it simply contradict what God says elsewhere in the Bible, including the above and following this finding in our text.

So how are we often come to this unusual translation? - Because in Greek there are two homonyms - ἀχρεῖος (Achreios) - one of which means: "useless" or "nonessential" ; against each other by means "unpretentious" .

Let us therefore three questions:

... which is not the same thing.

Are we

unprofitable servants ?

We've all heard this verse as: "We are unprofitable servants! " (v. 10). It is sometimes repeated, probably without having taken the trouble to look at its context, without having bothered to think about all of our text.

then used this text to be whipped, like Martin Luther in his cell of the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt, before he discovered the liberating Gospel of Christ, the Gospel release and propel a "service" we do not want to still qualify for "useless" !

Let our text a little closer. We are in the presence of "a slave who tills" , which "herding" and "prepares and serves dinner" its master. (V. 7-8).

Anyone who has some knowledge in agriculture and livestock will it is not "useless" to plow and tend their herds. Besides, what master squander his fortune to purchase and maintain slaves just for them to do unnecessary things, which are useless?

And anyone who has already returned tired and hungry from work, will also know that it is not "useless" can sit at the table and get enough to regain strength .

Indeed, servants or slaves of our text indicates : "We fai t what we should do . " (v. 10) They did what they had been loaded. And Paul invites us: "Be, by love serve one another! " (Ga 5.13) Certainly not because it " useless " !

Spouses who help each other to carry out their business of living together, parents raising their children, people who do their work honestly, our commitment to the Church and mission, all this would "useless" ? Of course not! But the Lord does not send us there

Paul can speak of his "utility" (1 Cor 14.16) as the recipients of his letters (Acts 18.27; 2 Tim 4.11; Phil 11) .

And when Jesus says we are "Light of the World" and "salt of the earth" It speaks well of our utility in the world!

When Peter says: "You are a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, a redeemed people e to proclaim the praises" of Christ (1 Pet 2.9) when ... Jesus commands us: " go and make all the nation s disciples ! " (Mt 28:19), we charge there, there service " useless " ?

No, your commitment in married life, in family life, for the sake of your family and friends in the life of the church or charity in the world of work, in short, your life redeemed and sanctified n is not "useless" , but fruitful as it has the approval of your heavenly Father, and is blessed by him.

Are we

It's not quite the same as being unnecessary. I take an example that will soon affect you.

I think, I hope, I am even Naturally, my ministry among you is not "useless" , otherwise the Lord would not have known of you and would not have linked his blessing to the announcement of his Gospel and the administration of the sacraments which he charged me with you.

And if I thought my ministry was pointless among you, I despair, I depressed, I would not have the strength to continue. Do not worry: it's far from the case.

But some time in a few years now, my Master happen to me, I replace it with another to minister among you useful. I am useful but not essential. God just use someone else instead of me.

And this is true of all of us. God has placed us where we are. It has "redeemed, so we were his property and that we live in His Kingdom to serve" as "father, mother or child, master or servant," (Luther, Small Catechism ), Department Head, laborer or artisan, pastor, deacon, elder or parishioner without specific title.

Everywhere, God has placed us so that we are useful. But stay humble, do not believe that we can exercise some sort of blackmail on God - as employees sometimes do on employers (the opposite also exists, but it's not the point). Do not believe that God can not do without us. Nobody is irreplaceable - Jesus Christ, of course except in the work of our redemption.

Let us be thankful to God that he did not want to do without us, that we had bought, called to his service and that we employed in useful services that we can visit family, church, work, in society.

Be grateful to him: he is going to find our "pleasant through Jesus Christ" (1 P 2.5) while we are very little compared to him and he could happen to us. Well no! it does not.

It is not like the master of our text "no recognition" for the services it renders the slave (v. 9). Instead, God is a Master who complimented us and who, in his great goodness, we are told, for example: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful [...]. Come share the joy of your master. " (Mt 25.21-23)

Are we

"servants unpretentious" ?

Back to the story. Jesus takes the comparisons in the society of his time. It does not give an opinion on slavery. It uses relationships in the social system of his listeners to make them understand something.

Today, he would take the examples in our society, so that in two thousand years, we do not perhaps understand better how it was possible in our time as leaders earn up to 400 times the minimum wage (up to 4 and a half million Euros). The difference is not it even greater between the master and his slave then?

It is true, there is a fundamental difference between the slave of the day and employee today : The slave belongs to the master. Again, we will not get into a debate about whether to be a minimum-wage earners who find it difficult to feed his family, a homeless man dying of hunger and cold, or a slave who has something to food, clothing and living with his family.

On the spiritual plane, " what we should do " - " be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect " (Mt 5.48) - we do imperfectly. We therefore have little merit to make. This is our Master, who was perfect for us.

In this sense, our personal history is quite different from that of the slave of a master of the time. Our Lord became a servant to fix our imperfect.

And thanks to his intervention, our service - certainly useful, but still imperfect - is however "pleasing to God" .

Staying humble certainly, but full of joy, because the service that the Lord asks of us is useful in his kingdom and the world!

Text: Exodus 3: 1 - 10

1 Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-priest of Midian;

and arrived at the mountain of God, Horeb.

2 The Messenger Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire, the middle of a bush.

Moses saw the bush was on fire,

but the bush was not consumed.

3 Moses said

"I will make a detour to see this extraordinary phenomenon:

why bush is not burnt does not it? "

4 The Lord saw that he had a detour to see;

then God called him out of the bush: "Moses, Moses!"

He replied: "I'm here!"

Dear friends,

who have met "Messenger of the Lord " !

This text was chosen for the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ because he brings one of the many appearances of Jesus in the Old Testament as "the angel of the Lord" !

Remember! The word "angel" means "messenger" , "bearer of news" . In the Bible, God often sent an angel to someone.

In our story, however, God does not send an angel any and sends "the angel of the Lord" which here is called "God" ; that it is the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Our text is therefore a text of Epiphany, a story where "Christ the Lord, " (Lk 2.11) appears in his divine majesty, a story where he" s'épiphanie "where he manifests his divinity with a bang.

What is he doing in the desert of Midian, who has grown up with Egyptian Pharaoh in the palace? Why he seeks to find "Beyond the Desert" a grassy field for sheep, which he was surrounded by an army of slaves in Egypt? What will happen to find "Horeb" - which means "dry" - he who lived in the lush Nile Valley?

Life has not been spared. It fell from above. He had to flee the soldiers of Pharaoh who wanted to kill him (Exodus 2.15). His faith in God was severely tested. Raised in the highest spheres of society, it is among the poorest. Its safety and luxury, he had to exchange them against insecurity and the dangers of the desert. Previously prince, he's busy with work that would qualify today painful.

This social meltdown, he did not have to digest it overnight. He has known fear, flight, wandering, loneliness, poverty, but also disillusionment, disappointment, discouragement. Our faith in God is it not also sometimes put to the test? We live and inhabit not all in the country or region where we grew up. Some of us are away from their families. Others must work in harsh conditions or are struggling to make ends meet. Still others are struggling with health problems.

Keep faith in God, goodness and rightness of his decisions, the way we drive, is not easy for everyone. Have we ever done up to him these words of "Little Catechism" , but then as a sigh, a cry for help: "I can not, by my reason and my own strength to believe in Jesus Christ! " ?

But the Lord hears his people. There is not remote. This is the wonderful experience that Moses could do there in the desert. "The Messenger of Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire, the middle of a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire, but the bush was not consumed. "

" The Messenger of the Lord " , " the angel of the Lord appears in the middle of a bush " . He has not found better. The fertile Egypt culture so bright like a majestic palm. Life in the desert is symbolized by a "bush" . It also gives the image that sometimes the Church midst of the world a "bush" amidst a lush forest.

The community of believers, has problems, sometimes as hard as the life of Moses in the wilderness, financial problems (how to find enough donations to better announce Christ among and around us?) Cure problems soul (we are all human, torn by the problems and temptations of this world and our nature can be so low), problems also with other churches who try to circumvent the biblical revelation to better please the people, for give the Church more aspect of the majestic palm tree.

Yet, God manifests himself with grace in "the bush" , not in the palm grove in the Church, not the world. The Lord , " do not mind being lowered to meet us. Later, "Messenger of the Lord " will be born in a barn up and die on a cross so as not to miss the appointment with us.

In our text, he comes to meet Moses and through Moses, to meet the people of Israel enslaved in Egypt. He noted he wants his distress, save for his misfortune. "The Lord said:" I saw the affliction of my people in Egypt and have heard their cry because they grow their tyrants, and I know his pain. I'm down to deliver them ... "

God is not a distant God, inattentive, insensitive to the problems of its own. What did he say? "I saw [...] I heard [...] I know [...]. " Dear child of God, your heavenly Father " knows " your problems, he knows what you endure. But "knows" also what contributes to your good, if you lean on him and trust him (cf. Rom 8.28).

God does "sees" and "hear" not only our groans then go his way as some did in the parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10:30-37). When God sees us suffer, he intervenes. Faced with the misery of the people of Israel in Egypt, he said to Moses: "I am down to free the hand of the Egyptians. And he came to grumble against the way God led them to freedom: it was not going fast enough or it was not good enough for their taste.

Dear friends, one despairs of God when we want to dictate how they should intervene - and obviously it happens otherwise. Make it confidence! In his wisdom, he knows better than us what is to our good and His goodness, he can not play with us.

Look, this was not the game when he sent his Son: his manger was not at stake, and his cross, much less. It "knows" our needs, it "knows" the struggle of our faith: that is why he is transfigured before us in his Gospel, that is why he invites us to his table sacred to pick ourselves up. That is also why it has ally to us in Baptism.

This will be our second point:

because THAT'S ALLIANCE HE CONCLUDED WITH U.S..

"The Messenger of the Lord " , "Angel of the Lord " , that " appears " by Moses, is none other than the God of the Alliance! It's like as it appears: "I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. "

Our God is not a God far away, distant, but a God who binds, which is allied to his own. In presenting as "the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob" , he recalled that he joined with the patriarchs, promising to send them a Messiah-Savior.

By presenting themselves as "the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob" , he said he is a God who makes promises and keeps its word, a God who has a contract, who has contracted an alliance.

An alliance also surprising: On one hand, the alloy is God, on the other hand, the alloy is "the people" . The contract says that God is the liberator ally and ally the human issued; divine ally give a new country and ally receive the human, "a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey " . This is not what is called "tit for tat. Here could shape the expression of "giving-receiving."

"What alliance wobbly! "We are tempted to exclaim. Indeed, it is enough. But has he not done the same with us, and we do not carry us well? Has he not bound to "promises" (Ac2.38-39) even more amazing to the baptismal covenant in which we received for the love of His Son?

This alliance is also completely out of balance: on one side, the best acting is God (as he has "regenerated" in Baptism (Titus 3.5-7), on the other side, the allies who profit, we, the believers on one side giver is God (he gave us his love, his forgiveness, his life, hello), on the other side those who receive without deserving it, it's still us.

And if the Land of Canaan, which God would offer the people of Israel would be a fertile country, the heavenly Canaan Christ the Savior that we got it and who is promised to the baptized is infinitely more radiant, beautiful and relaxing .

is how Jesus reveals his glory to his family in his Word. And now why he does it: first, to help us effectively in the fight of our faith, then, because he is a God of the Covenant, and finally, this will be our last point:

DUE TO TRANSFIGURATION

MORE GLORIOUS

AHEAD STILL

Early in our history, "Moses [...] came to the mountain of God, Horeb. "Why " Horeb " is it called " the mountain of God " ? Why this sad and desolate place it is called "the mountain of God" ?

You see, before to this story written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Moses had done on this same mountain experience even more overwhelming: God had given him the "Ten Commandments" (Ex 19.10 - 20:21).

This mountain is sometimes called "Horeb" sometimes "Sinai" . The manifestations of God on Mount "Sinai" or "Horeb" were awesome, supernatural, to the point where it is difficult to get an accurate picture. Since then, it has been called "the mountain of God" , the mountain where God has manifested his glory and power, but also his concern for his people.

For the moment, God tells Moses he is going "raise" Israel - "my people! " he said - "of this country towards a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey. " Slavery will give way to freedom, forced labor in paid work, the prohibition of worshiping God in the freedom to do so. They no longer suffer from bullying, bans, a kind of straitjacket in which they are nestled in Egypt, but they shall dwell "a vast country" where they can spread.

But Canaan should also be a step on the road toward the great Epiphany of Christ, to the impressive final Transfiguration "the angel of the Lord" .

The Epistle to the Hebrews tells us : " [the Israelites] obtained the realization of promises, [...] a resurrection top [...] God in fact, had to something higher " for them, as indeed " for us [...]. " (Heb 11.33-40)

Transfiguration of " Messenger of the Lord " had to show Moses that God was concerned about the fate of " his people " , he had a plan for him to clear a path through the vicissitudes of life to eternal happiness.

"The Messenger of the Lord " would not only liberate the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt, he would even deliver all mankind from its sins in the explant itself.

What Christ transfigured told Moses joined what Pierre, Jacques and Jean were heard on the Mount of Transfiguration: Christ or Messiah would free us to lead us to a glory unparalleled in eternal bliss. With the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery, God wanted to show that God is a Savior able to keep its promises.

And as he led the Israelites through the desert to test the Land of Canaan, he leads us, with us, encourages us and helps us through the trials of this life to the heavenly Canaan, for "our citizenship is in heaven we" (Ph 3.20).

is the message of Christ transfigured. And all this we owe him alone and he would do and which he met with "Moses and Elijah" on the Mount of Transfiguration (Luke 9.30 -31).

Praise be to transform it and before our eyes in the Gospel, waiting to share with us his transfiguration in heaven! (Phil 3.21)
